The Adult Dependant Relative (ADR) visa allows elderly or seriously ill family members of British citizens, individuals settled in the UK, EU Settlement Scheme status holders, or those with refugee or humanitarian protection to join their family in the UK on a permanent basis.
The Adult Dependant Relative (ADR) visa allows elderly or seriously ill family members of British citizens, individuals settled in the UK, EU Settlement Scheme status holders, or those with refugee or humanitarian protection to join their family in the UK on a permanent basis.
To be eligible for this route, you must show that:
You are the parent, grandparent, adult child, or sibling of someone in the UK who is over the age of 18 and is a British citizen.
Holding pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
Granted refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK
you require ongoing personal care due to illness, disability, or age-related issues, and cannot access the necessary care in your home country—either because it is not available, not affordable, or not adequate.
Your sponsoring family member in the UK can provide full financial and accommodation support without recourse to public funds. If your sponsor is British or has settled status, they must sign a formal undertaking to support you for at least five years.
You have obtained a valid tuberculosis (TB) test certificate, if required based on your country of residence.
A major requirement for this visa is proving the lack of suitable care in your country of origin. This includes showing that:
You cannot reasonably access care from family, professional carers, or care institutions in your current location.
Even if your sponsor can afford private care in your home country, the care must be considered either unavailable or unaffordable based on your specific circumstances..
These criteria make the ADR route among the most challenging family-based visas to obtain.
If your ADR visa is granted, you will be granted Leave to Remain upon entry. There are no English language for this visa.
