The Graduate Visa is a post-study work visa available to international students who have successfully completed a degree or other eligible qualification in the UK.
The Graduate Visa is a post-study work visa available to international students who have successfully completed a degree or other eligible qualification in the UK. It allows them to remain in the UK temporarily for 2 years to work, look for employment, or explore opportunities after their studies. This route is non-extendable and does not lead directly to settlement, however it offers flexibility for gaining work experience in the UK.
To apply for a Graduate Visa, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
You must have completed a UK degree or a recognised qualification at undergraduate level or above (e.g., bachelor’s, master’s, or certain professional courses).
You must hold a valid Student visa (previously Tier 4) at the time of your application.
Your educational institution must be a licensed student sponsor and must confirm to the Home Office that you’ve successfully completed your course.
You must have studied in the UK for at least 12 months, or the full duration of the course if it’s shorter.
Applications must be made from inside the UK before your student visa expires.
Work in most roles at any skill level.
Be self-employed or seek freelance opportunities.
Continue job hunting or undertake internships and placements.
Engage in voluntary work or unpaid roles.
Work as a professional sportsperson (including coaching).
Access public funds.
Study on a course that would normally require a student visa.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree: 2 years.
PhD or other doctoral-level qualification: 3 years.
The visa cannot be extended, but you may be eligible to switch to other immigration routes, such as the Skilled Worker visa or Scale-Up Worker visa if you secure an eligible job with a licensed sponsor.
Unlike other routes, there is no requirement to show funds or meet a maintenance threshold when applying for the Graduate Visa.
You must apply before your current Student visa expires.
Applications must be submitted while you are in the UK.
Your university or college must notify the Home Office that you’ve successfully completed your course before you apply.
Application Fee: £822
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £1,035 per year of stay
Applications are usually processed within 8 weeks. You can remain in the UK while a decision is pending, provided your student visa is still valid when you apply.
Be currently in the UK on a valid Child Student Visa.
Be aged 17 or under.
Hold an unconditional offer from a licensed sponsor.
Possess a valid CAS.
Prove they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and pay for the course.
Although the Graduate route itself does not lead to indefinite leave to remain, visa holders may transition to other routes, such as:
Skilled Worker visa
Scale Up worker visa
Innovator Founder visa
