The Unmarried Partner Visa allows individuals who are in long-term, unmarried relationships with British citizens or persons who are settled in the UK to live together in the UK. This route leads to Settlement after five years of continuous residence.

To qualify for this visa, you must be able to prove:
Your partner is either British, Irish, or holds a settled or qualifying immigration status in the UK.
Both of you are at least 18 years old at the time of application.
You and your partner have been in a relationship akin to marriage and living together for a minimum of two years.
Your relationship is authentic and ongoing.
You intend to reside permanently in the UK with your partner.
Any previous romantic relationships have officially ended.
You can financially support yourselves and any dependents without needing public assistance.
You can be financially self-sufficient without public funds unless you are meeting the financial requirement through adequate maintenance.
You have suitable accommodation arranged.
You meet the English language proficiency requirement.

You must provide sufficient evidence that:
You and your partner have cohabited for at least two years in a relationship equivalent to marriage or civil partnership.
The relationship is ongoing and genuine.
You plan to live together in the UK on a long-term basis.
Any past relationships have legally ended before this application.
You and your partner must meet the minimum income threshold to demonstrate financial independence. The required annual income is £29,000.
This requirement can be fulfilled using:
Salaried or self-employed income.
Profits from business or investments.
Income from rental property, pensions, or shares.
Cash savings, subject to minimum thresholds.
Certain state benefits received by your partner (e.g., Carer’s Allowance or Personal Independence Payment) may be accepted under the adequate maintenance criteria.
You must show that you have adequate housing available that:
Is owned or occupied exclusively by you and your partner.
Meets acceptable living standards.
Does not result in overcrowding or violate public health standards.
Unless exempt, applicants must prove their knowledge of English. The required level is:
CEFR Level A1 for initial entry visa applications.
CEFR Level A2 when applying to extend the visa.
CEFR Level B1 is needed later for settlement applications (ILR).
Exemptions apply for applicants over 65 years old, those with a physical or mental condition that prevents them from meeting the requirement, and nationals of majority English-speaking countries.
Your UK-based partner must fall into one of the following categories:
A British or Irish citizen in the UK.
A person with Indefinite Leave to Remain, settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or permanent residence.
A Turkish Worker or Businessperson under the European Communities Association Agreement (ECAA).
A person granted refugee status or humanitarian protection.
After five continuous years on the Unmarried Partner Visa route, you may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain, provided that:
You continue to meet the financial, accommodation, and relationship requirements.
You demonstrate sufficient English proficiency at CEFR Level B1.
You pass the Life in the UK Test.
You have not breached UK immigration laws during your stay.
If you are already in the UK on a different visa, you may be able to switch to the Unmarried Partner Visa route, provided your current immigration status permits it (e.g., not a visitor or someone without lawful status).
