Temporary Seasonal Worker Visa

The Temporary Seasonal Worker visa is intended for individuals who plan to come to the UK to undertake short-term work in seasonal sectors, primarily agriculture. This visa allows workers to fill temporary labour shortages during peak seasons, supporting industries that rely on seasonal employment.

It is a time-limited visa that does not lead to settlement but permits workers to legally perform specified seasonal jobs in the UK for a defined period.

What Is the Temporary Seasonal Worker Visa?

  • This visa route enables employers in certain sectors, such as horticulture and farming, to sponsor overseas workers to meet seasonal labour demands.

  • It is designed to cover short-term, temporary roles during busy periods like harvest time.

  • The visa is valid for the length of the employment period, up to a maximum of 6 months.

Eligibility and Sponsorship

Applicants must have a valid sponsorship from a UK employer licensed to recruit Temporary Seasonal Workers. The employer must provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) confirming the nature of the job, pay rate, and duration of employment. Permitted roles under this visa include:

  • Fruit picking and harvesting.

  • Crop tending and planting.

  • Other seasonal agricultural tasks.

Requirements

To be eligible for this visa, applicants need to satisfy these conditions:

  • Hold a valid Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed UK sponsor for an approved seasonal role.

  • The job must be genuinely temporary and seasonal in nature, with the visa issued for up to 6 months.

  • Meet the required minimum wage for the role, as set by UK immigration standards.

  • Demonstrate they have enough funds to support themselves during their stay unless the sponsor certifies maintenance on the CoS.

  • Intend to leave the UK once the employment period ends.

  • Comply with any English language requirements if applicable.

Financial Maintenance

Applicants must prove they can support themselves financially during their stay by either:

  • Showing evidence of savings of at least £1,270 held for 28 consecutive days before applying.

  • Having their sponsor certify financial maintenance on their behalf in the Certificate of Sponsorship.

Visa Length

  • The visa is typically issued for a period of up to 6 months to cover the seasonal employment duration.

Dependants

  • Dependants such as spouses or children are not eligible to accompany the main visa holder under the Temporary Seasonal Worker scheme.
