The Global Talent Visa is designed to attract highly skilled and exceptional individuals in the fields of academia, research, arts and culture, and digital technology. It allows talented professionals to live and work in the UK without needing a sponsoring employer, offering both flexibility and a route to permanent residency.

What Is the Global Talent Visa?
Academia or research (including science, medicine, engineering, humanities)
Arts and culture (including film, television, dance, music, literature, and fashion).
Digital technology (such as AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, or product development).
You can choose to stay for 1 to 5 years initially, with the option to extend as many times as you wish, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
This visa offers a fast-track route to settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain):
After 3 years if endorsed under "exceptional talent" or you win a qualifying award
After 5 years if endorsed under "exceptional promise"
To apply, you must:
Be 18 years of age or older
Receive an endorsement (unless applying via a qualifying award)
Work in an eligible sector
Be internationally recognised or show strong potential in your field
Intend to work in your area of expertise in the UK
You must also provide evidence of your achievements, leadership potential, and how you will contribute to the UK’s talent landscape.
There is no English language requirement for this visa.
There is no mandatory minimum salary, but you must be able to support yourself financially.
Dependants will need to meet financial maintenance criteria unless they have been living in the UK for over 12 months.
There are two application stages:
Most applicants must first receive an endorsement from one of the approved endorsing bodies, which assess whether the applicant qualifies as either:An exceptional talent (already recognised as a leader in their field), or An exceptional promise (emerging leader showing strong potential)
Each sector has its own endorsing body, such as:
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for academics
Tech Nation (for digital technology)
Arts Council England (for culture and arts).
Note: Some individuals, such as those awarded certain prestigious prizes (e.g., Nobel Prize, Academy Award, Turing Award), may apply directly without an endorsement.
The Once endorsed (or exempt), you can apply for the visa itself. You do not need to have a confirmed job offer or Certificate of Sponsorship.
Your spouse or partner and children under 18 can apply to join or remain with you in the UK. They are allowed to work or study during their stay.
No sponsorship required – Freedom to change jobs, become self-employed, or start a business
Flexible stay – You can choose your length of stay and extend as needed
Route to settlement – Eligible for ILR after 3 or 5 years
Family inclusion – Dependants can work or study
